LOCAL SCHOOLS & CADET UNIT SUPPORT

OUR SUB BRANCH HISTORY

The North Gold Coast RSL Sub-Branch is committed to fostering strong relationships with district schools and cadet units throughout the community. Our initiatives aim to educate and inspire younger generations about Australia's military history, while building meaningful connections that ensure the sacrifices of our veterans are remembered and honored.

 

Objectives of School and Cadet Support

Our goals include:

  • Promote awareness and understanding of Australia's military history and traditions.

  • Support schools and cadets in honoring ANZAC Day, Remembrance Day, and other commemorative events.

  • Provide resources, speakers, and VIP guests to enhance school programs and cadet initiatives.

  • Strengthen ties between the Sub-Branch, schools, and cadet units for mutual engagement and support.

 

School Support Programs

We proudly assist a wide range of educational institutions, from kindergartens to primary and high schools, within the North Gold Coast area. Our support includes:

  • Commemorative Initiatives Programs like Postcards of Honour and Draw to Remember encourage students to reflect on and connect with the stories of our veterans.

  • Guest Speakers and VIPs We provide speakers for school ANZAC Day assemblies, history class talks, and other special events, offering students first-hand insights into military history and veterans' experiences.

  • Event Participation Schools frequently invite us to participate in activities such as WW1 Night at the Museum History showcases, where veterans interact with students and share their knowledge.​

Cadet Unit Support

The Sub-Branch actively supports local cadet units, including:

  • 222 Squadron (Air Force) - Coomera Based at Foxwell Secondary College.

  • TS Tyalgum (Navy) - Located at the Ashmore Army Reserve Depot.

Our support for cadets includes:

  • Providing speakers and VIP guests to attend cadet events.

  • Offering financial assistance through RSL State and ad-hoc contributions.

  • Providing guidance and advice to foster cadet development.

Building Community Connections

The collaboration between the Sub-Branch, schools, and cadet units is a two-way partnership. Schools and cadets generously give back by:

  • Participating in remembrance programs and services, such as assisting with Catafalque Parties and ANZAC Day ceremonies.

  • Supporting fundraising initiatives to aid our veteran programs.

We welcome all schools and cadet units seeking support—there are no participation criteria or fees. Together, we can ensure that the sacrifices of our veterans are never forgotten and that their legacy continues to inspire future generations.
